Extension and reconfiguration of family home in West Dulwich

This large Victorian property had a disproportionately small and very dark kitchen space with no direct connection to the garden other than through a large, dated conservatory.

Eaves glazing was proposed in order to maximise the distant views of the garden and nearby tree tops. Vertical brick piers carefully frame the views while also filtering the evening sunlight.

The opened-up internal spaces are anchored by a free-standing feature fireplace and a newly formed courtyard provides natural daylight to the darker rooms of the house.

Vertically stacked brickwork was used to emphasise the vertical proportions of the extension design and to increase the perceived height of the space.
